Aitkin County Horse Project Participation Points

The Aitkin County 4-H Horse Project Development Committee believes learning, personal growth and development, knowledge, and responsibility are more important than showing, therefore:
PARTICIPATION POINTS: In order for a 4-H Horse Project member (completed 6th grade and up) to be awarded State Horse Show trip scholarship monies they must earn 4 participation points before the start of the current year’s county fair. 4 participation points are required for state horse show monies. Members with less than 4 points will pay for all expenses related to participating in the show; show registration, class fees, mileage, lodging, etc.
Participation points are put in place to encourage 4-Hers to explore other aspects of their project area and the county 4-H program. Participation points only count as participation points; not as show placing points.

These are the only ways in which to earn horse project participation points. If you have something you would like to see added to the list please let the Extension Office know and it will be considered by the Horse Committee for the following year.
Participation points can be earned through the following activities:
Attend a 4-H Horse Training or Clinic, 1 point
Teach a 4-H Horse Training or Clinic, 2 points (maximum of 2 points)
>This activity must be approved by Laurie Gorecky BEFORE MAY 15!
Attend a Horse Project Meeting, 1 point
Attend a quarterly 4-H Council Meeting, 1 point
Attend an Aitkin County 4-H Club Meeting, 1 point (maximum of 2 points)
Participate in the Fruit Sale, 1 point
Attend Spring Fling Project Day, 1 point
Work a shift, during the county fair, at the 4-H Malt Booth, 1 point (maximum of 2 points)
Complete and turn in a project record (any project area), 1 point
Attend a Livestock Quality Assurance & Ethics Training, 1 point
Attend a 4-H Horse Fun Show in another county, 1 point
Attend 4-H summer camp or Camp Shamineau or serve as summer camp counselor, 1 point

A sign-up sheet will be available at most 4-H horse events for members to record their attendance.  It is each member’s responsibility to make sure they sign in or that they provide the participation points team with some proof of attendance (note form leader, etc). The Participation Point Team will keep track of the participation points of each Horse Project member for the entire year.
