October 9th Council Meeting Minutes

The October 9th, 2017 meeting of the Aitkin County 4-H Council was called to order at 7:00pm by Payton Berg. Flag pledges were said, there was no Secretary’s Report. At the end of the 2016-2017 Fiscal year the balance of the Council’s Treasury was $56,966.20. Annual Budget was read and approved. The year-end Financial Summary was read and approved.

Old Business: included discussion about the Fair and State Events.

New Business:

  • Tena Burgstaler, Colleen Chute, and Brenda Besch volunteered to serve a 2 year term as Adult Directors. Karena Bugstaler and Payton Berg volunteered to serve a 2 year term as Youth Directors. Karena Burgstaler volunteered to replace Silas Berg as Youth Director for his remaining year. Alaina Chute volunteered to serve as the Youth Treasurer. Raelynn Schuety volunteered to serve a 1 year term as Secretary.
  • Club Enrollment packets were available to clubs at the meeting and to pick up in the office, they include enrollment materials, secretary books, and treasurer books for the new 4-H year.
  • Youth Leadership was discussed by the PC as an area to expand in the upcoming year by encouraging clubs to think of youth to send to BLU, encouraging BLU attendance, and thinking about youth who they believe would do well/benefit from more experience as youth leaders to eventually form a council committee.
  • Celebration of Achievement will be held on October 22nd, at Aitkin Lanes. Friend’s of 4-H was discussed appointing Tammy Browning & Family the individual friend of 4-H for her work on the Maltbooth. The Aitkin Farm Bureau was appointed as the Business Friend of 4-H for their dedication to 4-H in our county. We will also have a card for Don Simons (who was a past Friend of 4-H) as he has had many family difficulties in the last year.
  • Toni reported about the importance of having adults become screened volunteers. She also said that the position for permanent PC will be coming open at the end of October. New PC by January.

Committee Reports:

  • Platbook: we have less than 500 platbooks left the next time we will be ordering is in 2019
  • Horse: State Horse was September 16-18 we had 7 members participate. There will be a horse meeting in January.
  • Dog: State Dog was September 23-24 we had 2 members participate they both did excellent.
  • Shooting Sports: State Invitational was September 9-10 we had 4 members participate with Owen C placing in the top 10 of his class.
  • Livestock: State Livestock was August 23-27 we had 3 members participate, with Shianne T earning Grand Champion with her Gelbvieh
  • Club Reports: Susan Sass reported about Pride of Palisade participating in Share the Fun at the State Fair. They placed top 2 with their skit.

Next meeting set for January 8th tentatively at the McGregor HS.
Fall Volunteer Training is set for 11/2 at Aitkin HS  6-8pm meal provided
