4-H Tech Wizards: Mentoring Program

4-H Tech Wizards: Mentoring Program for Under Served Areas

Be a part of an innovative group where creativity and ingenuity are strengthened and encouraged by technology exploration and mentorship. Tech Wizards is a FREE program for Fridley and Columbia Heights area 5th through 8th grade youth engaging them in small group mentoring that uses access to technology and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) concepts to teach young people life skills.  4-H Tech Wizards is supported by funding from OJJDP and National 4-H Council.

Program Goals:
• Provide active STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) education to underserved populations.
• Provide active STEAM education through program mentors with the goal of a 4 youth to 1 mentor ratio.
• Provide an opportunity for youth to engage in programming weekly.
• Provide an opportunity for youth to engage in programming 12 months of the year.

Current Locations:

Fridley Community Center 
• Meet every Monday, from 4-6 PM.
• Sign up at the Fridley Community Center Website or contact us with your interest in joining, by using this form.

Columbia Heights Library 
•Meet every Tuesday, from 4-6 PM
•Sign up by filling out an interest form

Mentorship:
Make a difference in a young person’s life by mentoring for Tech Wizards! 

What is a mentor?
• Mentors inspire small groups of 5th-8th grade youth by showing an interest in helping them.
• Meet weekly with 2-4 youth.
• Receive training and support in how to help youth work together, listen to each other, and develop life skills.
• Use technology with young people.

Requirements:
• Must be 16 years of age or older for a youth mentor, 21 and older for adult mentor.
• Must commit to weekly meetings for a year.
• Must be available during programs.

Benefits for Mentors:
• Become a trained mentor.
• Develop teaching skills.
• Have fun with middle school youth.
• Enjoy playing with technology.
• It will look amazing on a resume and/or college application.
