ST. CLOUD, Minn. (12/7/16) — Do you have someone on your holiday shopping list who is a gardener?  Sometimes, especially for non-gardeners it can be challenging to figure out exactly what to get the gardener in your life. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Gloves – Every gardener wears out gloves so buying them a selection of high quality leather, and neoprene gloves is always a thoughtful gift. Just try to determine the appropriate size before purchasing.
  2. Tools – Pay attention to what your gardener currently has in their garden shed and what appears like it has seen a better day and could be replaced. High quality shovels, trowels, forks, and weeding tools make a good gift for the holidays
  3. Gardening Calendars – The 2017 Minnesota Gardening calendars are available in many of the local University of Minnesota Extension offices. These calendars are put together by the University of Minnesota Extension and Minnesota Landscape Arboretum with specific gardening information and tips for Minnesota.
  4. Garden Art – There are many adorable and whimsical garden art items that can be placed throughout ones gardens including signs, fountains, and statues.
  5. Containers – Attractive, high quality flower pots and containers are a nice option for many. Large ceramic pots can bring beautiful color and texture to a home both indoors and out and any gardener will find a way to grow attractive plants in them.
  6. Bird Feeders – Many gardeners enjoy birds as well so purchasing them a lovely hummingbird or song bird feeder and bird seed might be the right gift for your friend or family member.
  7. Subscriptions – Consider purchasing a subscription to one of the many gardening magazines. There are several specific to Minnesota gardeners including the Northern Gardener and Minnesota Gardener.
  8. Membership – Minnesota is home to several gorgeous arboretums including the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd, St. John’s Arboretum in Collegeville and the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska, and purchasing your loved one the annual membership this year might be a great gift.
  9. Gift Certificates to Gardening Events – The University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardeners in Stearns County are selling gift certificates for their upcoming Gardening Education Day on March 25, 2017 at St. John’s University. Purchase your loved one the $30 registration now and they will receive information on how to register for the classes they would like to attend at this wonderful gardening event.
  10. Gift Cards – If you’re not quite sure what they could use, consider purchasing them a gift card for their local garden center.

Best of luck shopping for the gardener in your life and Happy Holidays!
