Livestock Judging Teams

4-H is forming a Livestock Judging team.   Nic is going to coach the team and we will start having practices as soon as we have enough members. Proposed practice schedule would be after school from 3:30 - 5 PM once per week and/or when schedules allow. We will allow as many members grades 6 and older who want to participate to practice with us. However, for the State Fair competition we will be limited to 4 members on each team (Intermediate and Senior) as stated in the rules below:

• Intermediate Team - participants have completed grades 6 - 8.
• Senior Team - participants have completed grade 6 to one year post-high school.
• Each team may consist of three or four members. If four members judge, the three highest scores will be used to determine the team score at the state contest.
• Members should have had practice judging sessions prior to the state fair contest.
• See Link below for more information

We will need to all decide on a fair way to select who makes the competing teams. However, seniority will be the major factor as well as number of practices attended. We encourage you to participate even if you may not make the competing teams at the State Fair. This only makes us a stronger team in years to come. As older members graduate out we will need younger members with good experience to step into competition roles. We may have the opportunity to judge at other contests before the State Fair as well (such as Little I at NDSU and/or SDSU), so we hope you will get at least one chance to judge in a competition.

If you are interested in being a part of the Cass County 4-H Livestock Judging Team, please contact the Extension Office to let us know. As soon as we have enough members willing to commit to the team, we will have a meeting and decide the practice and competition schedule.
