  • New report on Minnesota Farm Finances
The University of Minnesota Center for Farm Financial Management just published their 2015 FINBIN report on Minnesota Farm Finances. FINBIN includes about 10% of the commercial farms in Minnesota so it provides a broad-based perspective on agriculture in the state.
  • New fact-sheet from USDA-RMA on crop insurance and cover crops
USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) announces updated guidance for Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin farmers who use cover crops and insure their cash crops through Federal crop insurance. The fact sheet provides a quick and useful tool for farmers by explaining when a cover crop may be used in conjunction with their crop insurance coverage and how it affects the insurability of the cash crops. It also provides answers to frequently asked questions and clarifies how farmers may obtain more information.
  • Do neonicotinoid seed treatments work in soybean?
Extension Entomologists--including our own Bob Koch and Bruce Potter--from a round dozen of midwest states have worked together to publish a new guide to using neonicotinoid seed treatments in soybean. And when that many scientists can manage to agree on something, you know it's worth reading!
