Emerald ash borer update

adult emerald ash borer: an iridescent green beetle

With Emerald Ash Borer recently found in Apple Valley, this is a good time for a reminder about information available on this pest.

So far, Emerald ash borer has been found in Dakota County in Eagan, Mendota Heights, and Apple Valley. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture's emerald ash borer website has a map of all the confirmed emerald ash borer finds in Minnesota.

Jeff Hahn, Extension entomologist, recently updated our guide to the emerald ash borer, which has lots of information, including recent news, a summary of what you need to know about this tree pest, help identifying the beetle and symptoms of infested trees, and options for management.

At the Dakota County Extension office we have free identification cards to help you identify emerald ash borer. Stop by and pick one up!

The questions I've gotten most are what to do if you think your tree might be infested, and what other types of trees to plant to diversify your yard or woodlot.
