Information Sheets Available On Extension Web Site

There is still considerable discussion about the Environmental Working Group (EWG) web site (www.ewg.org) on farm program payments received by individuals and business entities from 1996-2000. Kent Thiesse, University of Minnesota Extension Service Educator, has written an Information Sheet titled : "Further Analysis of the EWG Web Site on Farm Program Payments". It explains the various farm programs that are included, answers questions about the EWG, and does some comparisons of farm operators in South Central Minnesota.

Kent Thiesse has developed another new Information Sheet titled : "Comparison of New Farm Bill Proposals". This sheet compares commodity provisions for corn and soybeans in the proposal for the new Farm Bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives and the proposal passed by the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee to commodity provisions in the current Farm Program

Both Sheets are available on the Blue Earth County Extension Office web site (http://www3.extension.umn.edu/county/blueearth/) or by calling the Extension Office (507-389-8325). Just click on "Farm Management", after the web site has been accessed.

The 2001-2002 Land Rental Survey Booklet is also available at the Blue Earth County Extension Office. It contains the results of the land rental survey conducted earlier this Fall in thirteen South Central Minnesota counties and several other information sheets and worksheets on land rental arrangements. Both the Land Rental Booklets and the recently released, 2001Crop Plot Data Booklets are offered free of charge. To receive a copy of either publication or the EWG Information Sheet, please stop by the Blue Earth County Extension Office in the Government Center at 410 South Fifth Street in Mankato or call (507) 389-8325 or contact the office via e-mail (thies007@umn.edu).
