The Priceless Value of Manure

Many livestock producers will swear to the value of manure when used as an amendment to the land and their subsequent yields. If you don’t know how to get the most out of your fertilizer, be it manure or otherwise, there’s an invaluable opportunity coming up that you won’t want to miss.

Blue Earth, LeSueur, and Nicollet County Environmental Services have teamed together to offer a crop nutrient management seminar, with emphasis on the land application of manure. Any livestock or crop producer with an interest in getting the most out of their manure/fertilizer is invited to attend. Staff from the University of Minnesota, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and local crop consultants will present various topics including current U of M crop nutrient recommendations, environmental considerations and spreader calibration.

"Manure application practices have changed a great deal over the past ten years. We are seeing many situations where manure ownership is being transferred to non-livestock producers," said George Leary, Blue Earth County Feedlot Officer. "Whenever manure is involved in a crop nutrient management plan, there are some additional regulations established by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency that must be considered and adhered to."

The workshop will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at the Best Western Garden Inn in North Mankato. Lunch will be provided. A registration fee of $8 is required and advanced registration is requested. For additional information or to register, please contact your Environmental Services Office.
