Important - Brand New Ear Tags for 2014
The Board of Animal Health has listed 4-H ear tags as a new form of official ID, and will therefore be issuing new, RFID, ear-tags for the 2014 year. The same market animals and the same breeding animals will still need 4-H tags. As a rule, all market animals and all breeding animals, except registered breeding stock, will again need 4-H tags. We will only use the new BAH 4-H RFID tags in 2014. No tags from previous years will be accepted.
SPECIAL NOTE: 4-H does have some continuous breeding projects such as yearling ewes, yearling and older dairy cattle, and cows from previous cow/calf pairs. These three named projects can still record the original tags that were used when the animal was first ID’ed.
All animals will have the same size ear tag as before EXCEPT swine; swine will now have small ear tags. There was no cost for the new ear tags – they will be provided for free to members. NEW PINS will be needed to tag the animals. The Extension office has ordered additional pins for rent. Please call the Extension office if you would like more information or have ANY questions.
