  • Registration for YELLO! 2018 opens soon - Don't miss this opportunity!

    Registration opens on May 19 for Youth Exploring Leadership and Learning Outloud! (YELLO!) The event is open to students who have completed grade 6 - one year past high school and will take place June 12-15 in the 4-H building at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds! Registration closes May 7.
  • Apply to be a 2018 - 2019 Minnesota 4-H State Ambassador!

    The 2018 - 2019 Minnesota 4-H State Ambassador team application process will open in mid-April. This is a fantastic leadership opportunity for youth currently in grades 10-12. Apply by May 20!

  • Raise your hand for 4-H in Minnesota

    Help us grow the next generation of true leaders—vote for Minnesota! The Raise Your Hand campaign is a nationwide call to action for alumni and friends to "Raise Your Hand" and empower our youth with the skills to lead for a lifetime. The campaign runs April 1 - May 15. Each hand raised is a vote towards a $20,000, $10,000 or $5,000 award for the three states with the most hands raised.
  • Create a video and win a $50 Visa gift card!

    The First Generation Initiative team is excited to announce a video contest to highlight the great work being done by 4-H'ers to recruit and orient folks new to 4-H! Submit your video by July 1 for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card and have your video showcased at the state fair!

    4-H clubs, Ambassador programs and other 4-H groups are encouraged to plan service projects in April for True Leaders in Service month!

  • Help spread the word about the spring Tractor Supply Paper Clover Campaign

    Tractor Supply's spring Paper Clover Campaign will run from April 11-22. Make donations online or in stores to help raise money for 4-H programs.
  • Save the date for Supersession: A 4-H Dog Project training workshop

    This year’s workshop will take place June 15-17 and is open to youth in third grade and up, families, trainers, potential trainers, and youth and adult leaders. Registration information will be online soon.
  • Two train the trainer 4-H Dog Project leader workshops are being offered this spring

    Workshops will take place April 28-29 in Redwood Falls and May 5-6 in Wadena. This training is open to 4-H Dog Project trainers, potential trainers, high school age youth leaders and adult leaders who train in county programs. Register by April 20.
  • Gopher Dairy Camp returns in 2018!

    2018 Gopher Dairy Camp will be held June 10-12 at the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus. This camp is open to youth who have completed grades 6-9, but have not yet started 10th grade. Prior experience with dairy cattle is required. Register by May 25.

  • Attend Minnesota 4-H Livestock Judging Camp this summer!

    Livestock judging enthusiasts in grades 6-12 are invited to attend livestock judging camp June 18-20 at the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus.
  • Attend the 2018 Minnesota 4-H Swine Judges Clinic

    The swine judges training clinic is designed for those already judging county fair 4-H swine shows as well as those who would like to get started. The clinic will be held at the animal arena on the University of Minnesota St. Paul Campus on April 14. Register by April 6 to ensure your spot!
  • Learn about scholarships available for college-bound 4-H youth

    Several scholarships are being offered for Minnesota 4-H youth pursuing post-secondary studies at accredited colleges and universities. Over $20,000 is awarded annually through a competitive application process. Visit the 4-H scholarship website to learn more and apply.
  • Are you interested in becoming a 4-H dairy goat judge?

    A 4-H dairy goat judges training is planned for Saturday, May 19 at the Benton County Fairgrounds. Adults (past 4-H age eligibility) who are interested should mark their calendars and register now!
  • Learn about new Livestock Quality Assurance training options for 4-H animal science members

    New in 2018 – 4-H animal science members can participate in one of two options for Livestock Quality Assurance certification training: 1) Livestock Quality Assurance and Ethics (LQA&E) training, or 2) Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) training. All youth participating as state fair 4-H livestock exhibitors must complete Livestock Quality Assurance training requirements.
  • Attend spring 2018 SS&W Leader Certification Training

    Register by April 6 for the April 21-22 training to be held at the Long Lake Conservation Center in Palisades. This training is for Minnesota 4-H adults and youth (9th grade and older) that lead or would like to lead training in shooting sports or wildlife.
  • 4-H 4-H Family Fun Night and Favorite Food Show Rescheduled - April 30

    Reschedule Date for 4-H Family Fun Night and Favorite Food Show will be Monday, April 30th in the Commercial Building on the McLeod County Fairgrounds. Sorry for the delay in the event date, but this is the first Monday that there aren't 4-H club meetings already scheduled or other conflicting events. Registrations due April 20th.

  • It’s time to Register for the 2018 Morris 4-H Regional Camp

    Our 2018 4-H Regional 4-H Camp is now accepting registrations! This year’s camp will be held June 19 – 21, 2018 at the University of Minnesota Morris Campus. New this year, you can register online at If you have difficulty registering online, please contact the Extension Office. More information available at McLeod County 4-H will reimburse 50% of camp cost after attending.

  • Demonstration, Fashion Revue, Performing Arts Judging Day Date

    Anyone who might participate in this year’s 4-H Demonstration, Fashion Revue, Performing Arts Judging Day is asked to please visit by March 15 to share your date preferences for this year’s event.

    Twenty-nine youth from 12 counties were recently selected to serve as camp counselors for the 2018 Morris Regional 4-H Camp scheduled for June 19th-21st.

  • Mark your calendars for the 2018 AKSARBEN Stock Show!

    The AKSARBEN Stock Show will be held in Grand Island, Neb. Sept. 27-30, 2018. It's open to 4-H members from Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. In it, 4-H youth exhibit livestock, compete in quiz bowl and judging, apply for scholarships and internships to work with the AKSARBEN Stock Show.
  • 2018 Helping Hands grant applications now open!

    Helping Hands grants helps fund worthy youth development programs or projects that young people seek to pursue in partnership with supportive adults and local businesses. Grant awards are between $200 and $2,000. Applications must be postmarked or emailed by March 1.
  • 4-H Scholarships

    The McLeod County 4-H Federation is pleased to offer two – $300 scholarships to our 2017 and 2018 High School Graduates. To be eligible, applicants must be actively enrolled 4-H members and can only receive this award once in a lifetime. In addition to these scholarships, we are excited to also have the Annual Duesterhoeft Family Scholarships available to all 2018 High School Graduates. All applications due April 1, 2018.

  • Ear Tag Cost for 2018

    Our 4-H Federation asked our members to find a way to recoup half of the cost of ear tags this year. Thank you to everyone who participated in our 4-H Ear Tag cost survey and provided their input! Based on the results, each 4-H member will receive a certain number of free ear tags for each specie that they participate in. These free ear tags may not be transferred between species. The number of free ear tags was determined by looking at the average number of ear tags each member received per specie last year.
  • Favorite Food Show

    We’d love to have you participate in this year’s 4-H Favorite Food Show! The 4-H Favorite Food Show is a 4-H Event in which a 4-H member prepares a favorite dish and displays it in an appropriate table setting. They are judged on their knowledge of preparation, appropriate table setting, menu, and nutrition knowledge.

    Starting in 2018 the 4-H Engineering Design Rube Goldberg Challenge will include high school youth in grades 9 to one year after high school. The 2018 challenge will be to “plant a seed and water the seed”.
  • It’s Time to Start Forming Bowl Teams Again

    Project Bowl is a "quiz bowl" competition where all asked questions deal with a specific topic of interest. Currently, there are seven different bowls that include: Dairy/Dairy Goat, Dog, General Livestock, Horse, Poultry, Rabbit, and Wildlife. McLeod County has organized teams in dairy/dairy goat, horse, and general livestock bowl in the past, but there is always to opportunity to complete in other areas.
  • 4-H County Fair Auction Changes for 2018

    Changes for the 2018 4-H County Fair Auction were approved at the November 20, 2017 4-H Auction Committee Meeting.

    McLeod County 4-H Awards • All awards recipients are selected based applications and/or nominations submitted by 4-H members or 4-H adult volunteers. • 4-H members are encouraged to challenge themselves by working toward different awards as they advance in their 4-H career. • The number of awards presented in each category is based on the number of applications or nominations submitted. • Paper copies of applications and nomination forms are also available at the Extension Office. • All awards will be presented at Recognition Banquet. • All application and nomination forms are due third Monday in September. Late applications will not be accepted!

    Using the Fairgrounds arena for 4-H horse practices is a privilege. We want everyone to be safe, learn new skills, and have fun! Please be sure to review our 4-H arena expectations and etiquette before coming to your first practice. As a reminder, scheduled 4-H horse practices are the only times that the arena is open for 4-H use.

    McLeod County 4-H Event Scholarship Process Purpose: For 4-H members and adults to share knowledge and experiences; to experience making presentations; to provide additional challenges for youth gained by attending 4-H sponsored events.

  • Market Beef and Dairy Steer Deadline

    Beef project members are reminded to have their market beef and dairy steers tagged and identified by February 15. You have until 11:59 p.m. on February 15 to enter them into 4honline. Reminder: Cloverbud Beef Projects do NOT tag or ID their projects; instead they will indicate their intent to show an animal through their county fair registration in July. Prospect Dairy Steers (County Fair only class) & Other Prospect Calves must be identified no later than May 15, 2018.
