Project Spotlight: Computer

This month’s project spotlight is computer.  In this project area members explore the workings of computers from looking at different types of computers to exploring different types of software members can learn many things about technology through this project area. Some project ideas include:

  • Labeled chart, graph, poster or three-dimensional display showing the components of a computer and how they work. May also include a written summary.
  • Display and/or written summary about one of the following: history of computers, changes in society resulting from the invention of computers, consumer choices involved when buying a computer, computer languages, the ethics (copyright laws, privacy) involved in using computers or another topic.
  • A short computer program written by the member - should include a statement of purpose for the program, flow chart, listing of program and listing of a run of the program.
  • Software developed by the 4-H member - Include statement of objectives, list, run and discussion of program. Programs should be original, enhanced or adapted by the member from an existing program.
  • A display showing how exhibitor has used a computer in an application related to 4-H.
  • Report of a study on a computer science career - Include positions available, skills needed, course work needed to obtain skills and programs offered at universities and other institutions which relate to the career. Include a poster or three-dimensional display summarizing study.
  • Display and/or written summary including an outline or lesson plan for teaching other members about computers or a plan to use the computer as a teaching tool for another 4-H project. Include statement of objectives (purpose) and plan for teaching.
  • Report on how computers are used in various careers – or computer skills necessary for various careers and how to obtain those skills.
  • Internet related exhibit ideas: effective searching techniques, ISP selection and set-up, e-mail etiquette, web page construction, website evaluation, list serve participation, etc.
