In Erica’s 12 years of 4-H, she has been active in the following projects:  Rabbits – 10 years, Child and Family Development – 6 years, Public Presentations – 5 years, Youth Leadership – 4 years, and Citizenship – 3 years.

On the 4-H club level, Erica has served as President, Secretary, Treasurer, Community Pride Leader, Recreation Leader, Youth Leader, Demonstration Evaluator, and volunteered with the Foods Project Day.

She has also given a presentation for Countywide Cloverbuds 4-H Club and worked as a Day Camp Counselor. Other 4-H activities Erica has been involved include the MN State Fair, 4-H Camp, and Citizenship Washington Focus – the Presidential Inauguration.

The highlight of Erica’s 4-H career was the Citizenship Washington Focus where participants attended the Presidential Inauguration. Erica said, “I was given the incredibly unique opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. and experience not only the city but also the inauguration of the President this year in person.”
About her favorite project, Erica said, “Public presentations has been the most personally fulfilling project area for me throughout my time in 4-H.  It has taken me to the state fair twice and prepared me well to speak in front of my school and other organizations.”

In being chosen 4-H Youth Leader of the Month, Erica said, “4-H has played a large role in shaping me to be the person I am today, and I want younger 4H members to see how many different ways you can get involved in 4-H, even if you live in the city.”

When asked about her hobbies, Erica said, “I love being involved with the Lourdes Drumline and practicing with my friends, as well as finding ways to work with and teach children.”
She is the daughter of Rich and Barb Dettinger and a member of the Creative Clovers 4-H Club.
