EOT Shooting Sports and Wildlife July Update

Happy summer everyone! The 4H Shooting Sports & Wildlife club has been practicing at the Deer Creek Rod and Gun club for the past several weeks to hone our skills as we are gearing up to participate in the Minnesota State 4H Shooting Sports & Wildlife Invitational that will be held in Fairmont, MN on September 8-10, 2017.

There is still time to sign up if you would like to participate.  Registration forms are due to the East Ottertail county office by July 17, so please bring your completed forms to practice by July 10 so that we can help you fill them out and get them to the office before the deadline.  If you need registration forms, please contact Jodi Holtti or one of the other coaches.  The registration packet also includes camping and lodging information for the Fairmont area, as well as other information about the Invitational event.

Keep in mind that if you plan to participate, you must complete at least 15 hours of practice per discipline if it is the first year that you are competing in that discipline, or 8 hours of practice per discipline if you have competed in the past.  If you have any questions, just ask your coach.  Jodi Holtti has been keeping track of those who have been attending practice each week as well as the hours you have completed for each discipline.

In the next few weeks, we will also be working on the Wildlife Education portion of our program.  We have a few speakers scheduled to talk to our group about various topics, and we will also be working on our Wildlife Project to take to the Invitational.  If you have any ideas for the Wildlife Project, please share them with your coaches.

One final note is that we are presented with several opportunities throughout the year to do various activities that help us to raise money for our club.  Last year some of the things that we did included parking cars at the county fair and picking up trash in the grandstands after the demo derby.  We would like every member to participate in at least one of these activities each summer, so we will let you know as these opportunities come up.

There will be no practice on Monday, July 19 since this is the week of the East Ottertail County Fair in Perham and many of our members will be preparing for the fair that week.  Good luck to all of those who are participating!
