2018 Andrea Ruesch Scholarship

2018 Andrea Ruesch Scholarship applications are being accepted.

The family of Andrea Ruesch established a 4-H scholarship with the Minnesota 4-H Foundation in memory of her dedication and contributions to the Minnesota 4-H program.  Based on the family's belief in positive youth development, the focus on this scholarship is on demonstrated learning through hands-on experience and using what you have learned to help others.  A minimum of four scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded annually.

Who is eligible?

Those who are a high school senior or first year college student currently enrolled in 4-H in one of the following nine counties:  Chippewa, Cottonwood, Jackson, Martin, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone, Rock and Watonwan (due to Andrea's 4-H experiences a youth and adult, when all else is equal, preference will be given to youth from the following counties:  Chippewa, Cottonwood, Jackson and Nobles).

  • Be active in 4-H leadership
  • Be continuing your education at a post-secondary institution
  • Demonstrate passing grades in high school
  • Submit a current photo of yourself; it will not be returned

What is needed?

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed application (see link below).  The application is a fillable PDF and each area indicates the maximum number of characters you have available for your information.  There will be space for supplemental information at the end (1,000 characters, with spaces).
  • 4-H story  (5,000 characters, with spaces)
    • Tell us about what 4-H has meant to you.  Share the 4-H project/group experience that taught you the most including a description of the experience, the lessons you learned from the experience, and the leadership roles you assumed because of this experience.  You may also highlight any additional 4-H learning experiences that made difference or impact in your life.
  • Two typed letters of recommendation.
    • Request a letter of recommendation from two adults (other than a family member or the 4-H Program Coordinator) who can attest to your 4-H involvement and leadership.  The writer (i.e. past and present 4-H leaders, fair board member, teachers, pastors, youth worker, etc.) should indicate in the letter how long they have known you, reflections from your educational experiences, and the leadership qualities they observe in you.
  • A copy of your high school transcript or unoffical college transcript.
  • One individual photo.  The photo will be used for publicity if you receive the scholarship; it will not be returned.


Application materials (typed application, typed 4-H story, two typed letters of recommendation, photo, and your transcript) must be received by e-mail, mail or hand delivery to the Extension Regional Office in Worthington by Monday, March 5, 2018.
