    A Minnesota 4-H adult volunteer recently received a phishing email containing club specific information – learn how to spot phishing attempts and follow up appropriately.
  • Remember livestock demonstration opportunities

    Again in 2018 the Minnesota Livestock Breeders Association will be providing $30 cash awards to all 4-H members who complete a livestock demonstration during 4-H livestock weekend at the Minnesota State Fair. Start planning your livestock demonstration today!
  • Learn about scholarships available for college-bound 4-H youth

    Two scholarships are being offered for Minnesota 4-H youth pursuing post-secondary studies at accredited colleges and universities. Over $58,000 is awarded annually through a competitive application process.
  • Congratulations to the 2018 Helping Hands Grants Recipients!

    Extension Development and Minnesota 4-H are happy to announce the 2018 Helping Hands Grant recipients. Of the 26 applications we received, 18 projects totaling $22,000 were awarded to 4-H clubs from 20 counties across the state.
  • 2018 State Arts-In registration is now open!

    All youth currently in grade nine - one year post high school are invited to participate in a 22 day theater arts/leadership/team building experience at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The 2018 Arts-In experience begins Aug. 9. Register by June 25.
  • Sign up for the new 2018 Engineering Design Challenge (formerly Rube Goldberg) state event

    Sign up for the 2018 Engineering Design Challenge! Youth across the state in grades three and up can participate in this fun, team focused STEM based challenge. The event will take place on Monday, Aug. 6 at St. Cloud State University. Sign your team up by June 8 to guarantee a spot at the event. All Level 1 and Level 2 teams are invited to attend!
  • Card games, board games, and hands-on learning...Oh my!

    Make sure your club explores these new zoonotic disease and agritourism resources being sent to every county across the state. Then enter your team into a video contest for a chance at winning a Glo-Germ lesson kit for your group - The winning team will have the chance to work with a professional videographer to re-produce their video as a commercial for national distribution!
  • Create a video and win a $50 Visa gift card!

    The First Generation Initiative team is excited to announce a video contest to highlight the great work being done by 4-H'ers to recruit and orient folks new to 4-H! Submit your video by July 1 for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card and have your video showcased at the state fair!
  • Sign up for 2018 Minnesota 4-H Livestock Day Camps!

    Livestock Day Camp registration is now open for youth and adults - attend one of the camps being offered in six different Minnesota locations. All camps will take place in June. Register by June 8 to learn more about your beef, meat goat, swine or rabbit projects!
  • Attend Minnesota 4-H Livestock Judging Camp this summer!

    Livestock judging enthusiasts in grades 6-12 are invited to attend livestock judging camp June 18-20 at the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus. Register by June 8.
  • Apply for livestock and horse bonus trips!

    Volunteers and PDC’s – it’s time to get together to apply to receive bonus trips for the state fair and state horse show! The deadline for submission is June 1.
  • Gopher Dairy Camp returns in 2018!

    2018 Gopher Dairy Camp will be held June 10-12 at the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus. This camp is open to youth who have completed grades 6-9, but have not yet started 10th grade. Prior experience with dairy cattle is required.
  • Learn about new Livestock Quality Assurance training options for 4-H animal science members

    New in 2018 – 4-H animal science members can participate in one of two options for Livestock Quality Assurance certification training: 1) Livestock Quality Assurance and Ethics (LQA&E) training, or 2) Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) training. All youth participating as state fair 4-H livestock exhibitors must complete Livestock Quality Assurance training requirements.
  • Rice County 4-H Horse Invitational

    Join members of the Rice County 4-H Horse Project Development Committee for some fun practice with your horse before county fair shows!
  • 4-H Food stand Improvements

    Rice County 4-H is working towards replacing some of our kitchen equipment to make for a more safe and successful food stand.
  • 2018 Regional Summer Outing

    Join other youth from Freeborn, Mower, Rice, Steele and Waseca Counties to take a tour of certain facilities at the U of M-St. Paul Campus as well as the U.S. Bank Stadium.

    Attention all dog enthusiasts! If you are a 4-H member who would like to get some extra show experience, plan to attend the Rice County 4-H Dog Invitational in June!

    Youth interested in the sheep project who are looking to learn some more basic information should plan to attend our workshop on May 19!
  • Rabbit Project Workshop

    For all youth interested in the rabbit project, plan to join us o May 5 to learn more about what showmanship is, how to tattoo your rabbit and what is necessary to complete the online 4-H ID process.

  • Register for YELLO 2018 to join hundreds of youth for an unforgettable leadership event!

    Registration for YELLO 2018 is open! Register by May 7 to attend Youth Exploring Leadership and Learning Outloud (YELLO). The event will take place June 12-15 in the 4-H Building on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The event is open to students who have completed grade 6 - one year past high school and is an opportunity to learn more about 4-H while gaining leadership and civic engagement skills and exploring the Twin Cities community!
  • Don't forget about 2018 Share the Fun!

    This is an early reminder that state fair Share the Fun nominations and application forms will be available online June 1. Interested 4-H youth should start preparing to perform their acts! If your county has a Share the Fun competition at county fair, reserve a place on the rehearsal time schedule any time after June 1.
  • Horse Kick-off Meeting

    ALL horse project members should plan to attend the annual horse kick-off meeting on Wednesday, April 11 at the 4-H building. There is a lot of information that will be shared that night as well as time for questions and answers.

    One way to financially support the Rice County 4-H program is through our annual livestock auction held the Saturday morning of fair week. This is our main fundraiser for the year and supports all 4-H programming for our youth and adults.

  • Raise your hand for 4-H in Minnesota

    Help us grow the next generation of true leaders—vote for Minnesota! The Raise Your Hand campaign is a nationwide call to action for alumni and friends to "Raise Your Hand" and empower our youth with the skills to lead for a lifetime. The campaign runs April 1 - May 15. Each hand raised is a vote towards a $20,000, $10,000 or $5,000 award for the three states with the most hands raised.
  • Save the date for Supersession: A 4-H Dog Project training workshop

    This year’s workshop will take place June 15-17 and is open to youth in third grade and up, families, trainers, potential trainers, and youth and adult leaders. Registration information will be online soon.

    The AKSARBEN Stock Show will be held in Grand Island, Neb. Sept. 27-30, 2018. It's open to 4-H members from Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. In it, 4-H youth exhibit livestock, compete in quiz bowl and judging, apply for scholarships and internships to work with the AKSARBEN Stock Show.
  • 2018 Helping Hands grant applications now open!

    Helping Hands grants helps fund worthy youth development programs or projects that young people seek to pursue in partnership with supportive adults and local businesses. Grant awards are between $200 and $2,000. Applications must be postmarked or emailed by March 1.

    Join us at 4-H camp this summer! Youth who have completed grades 3-6 have the chance to attend Camp Patterson in June and youth who completed grades 6 & 7 will attend Camp Omega in July.

    Minnesota 4-H is now accepting applications for 2018 summer internships with 4-H programs in counties across the state. The application deadline is open until positions are filled with a preference for candidates who apply by Feb. 15.
