City to Country Autumn Fare Set for September 13 Event
Last September, the Scott County Agricultural Society introduced a new event called Autumn Fare. This year, the Ag Society and Scott County Extension have joined together to offer more education, shopping, eating and fun in one location. Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 13, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. for this year’s new and exciting event, Scott County City to Country Autumn Fare.
Extension’s traditional “City to Country” tour will now be hosted on one site, the Scott County Fairgrounds, during Autumn Fare. Local farmers will share their story and their animals in the barns. Meet your favorite kind of farm animals and learn about new ones. Milking and sheep shearing demonstrations are scheduled throughout the day. Make sure you spend some time greeting all the animals during designated petting zoo times as well.
Numerous educational sessions will be offered every hour, on the hour. Sessions will last 20-30 minutes and most will be repeated throughout the day in case something else catches your attention during the scheduled time. Learn the basics of canning, farm and machinery safety, raising poultry in your backyard and others. The Carver-Scott Extension Master Gardeners will provide several sessions in their gardens on-site. Also, watch and participate in butter churning demonstrations presented by The Landing - Minnesota River Historical Park volunteers.
Shopping will be abundant with vendors of all types. Food producers and local artisans of all kinds will have their goods on display and available for purchase. Wood crafts, natural fibers, pottery, painting and other unique treasures will be found at this year’s Autumn Fare.
A buffet style Farmer’s Breakfast is being crafted by Local Harvest Alliance. It is sure to be just as delicious as last year’s menu! Other food options will be offered throughout the day by Scott County 4-H in their food stand. Snacks and treats will also be available through other local food vendors.
There will be plenty of activities for all members of the family. Take a turn on the Big Eli Ferriswheel housed on the fairgrounds. Check out the farm equipment or pet the animals in the barns, learn from experts about many different topics or just come for the delicious food! Regardless of your interests, your entire family will find something great to do at this year’s Scott County City to Country Autumn Fare!
