4-H Afterschool buzzes over bees

4-H Afterschool programs at Lowell and Piedmont Elementary Schools got a special treat as they wrapped up the program year last week. Brian Kinziger, 4-H volunteer and staff, lead the session with an introduction to honeybees. Through games and interaction, 4-H members learned about the interworking of a hive and the roles that different bees play. Complete with an inactive hive and equipment, youth were able to explore the real-life world of beekeeping. The session concluded with a fruit and granola snack, topped with honey from Brian’s hives.

Beekeeping was the final topic of a series of sessions that included engineering, cooking, crafts, culture, and nature. Afterschool sessions will resume again in the fall.
