4-H Hooked on Fishing Event

Boy fishing off dock

The South St. Louis County 4-H program is hosting a “4-H Hooked on Fishing” event, on August 22nd.The program is funded through a Minnesota DNR Angler and Hunter Recruitment and Retention Grant in partnership with the University of Minnesota Extension.

The event is designed to provide youth and their families the opportunity to explore the environment through fishing, encourage a love of angling and build capacity in the 4-H Fishing Sports Project. Youth will participate in a variety of workshops that include knot tying, fish identification, water and boat safety, and fish cleaning. Participants also will have the opportunity to try their hand at fishing!

This upcoming event would not have been possible without the help of many great organizations and businesses, including the Minnesota DNR Fisheries (Tower Office), Bear Head Lake State Park, Spirit of the Wilderness Outfitters, Northern Grounds, and Northland Market. In addition, we have a number of youth and adult volunteers from the Ely 4-H club who will be helping to make this day of fishing possible.

Please note that the location will be announced soon. Families are encouraged to attend together and enjoy the outdoors for the evening!
