Project Fun Day Recap!

Project Fun Day

On Saturday, May 13th, the North St. Louis County ambassadors hosted a project fun day for grades K-5 in Mountain Iron, Minnesota. Project fun day is an entire day where 4H’ers and non-4H’ers can participate in fun projects of their choice, led by County Ambassadors who teamed up with adult volunteers. There were over 40 kids from all over North St. Louis County at our event, all planned and run by our 4-H ambassadors.

Every participant signed up for two to four projects, with a lunch break in the middle of the day. It looked like the kids had lots of fun at every station. If a project was done early, 4H staff led games for the kids, which was a really good idea because there were no kids wandering around being bored, or wondering what to do once they were done. Lunch was also a success because there were a lot of healthy options to choose from, in addition to the main course of hot dogs and Sloppy Joes.

All of the projects we did were very successful, and the kids had fun doing them. We had different projects for clover buds and older     4-H’ers, which I think helped keep all projects on task and made the day run smoothly. The Cloverbud activities included Ants on a log, tie-dye, flower-bombs, elephant toothpaste, and lantern making. The more in-depth activities for the older kids included painting the northern lights, the horseless horse, and creating environmental life boxes.

Project fun day was a huge success, and many kids who weren’t enrolled in 4-H are now considering it and looking forward to next year’s events. There were a few minor hiccups, but the ambassadors who planned and reviewed the day know what to change to improve the experience for next year, so we can hopefully see many new faces in our North Saint Louis 4-H clubs!
