Volunteer Spotlight

Volunteer

Meet Seija Packila Wavrin a Volunteer with the Ely Knighthawks 4-H Club. Recently she shared her experience as a volunteer with the North St. Louis County 4-H Program.

Nicole Kudrle: How did you first get connected to 4-H?
I am a 4-H alumni. My first experience with 4-H was showing horses in Anoka County in my youth. More recently my son joined 4-H in first grade after a presentation in his classroom by a couple of Ely club members. Our great Ely club swept us right into the group!

Nicole Kudrle: What is your Favorite part of being a 4-H Volunteer?
The people I get to hang out with!  The best laughs I have had all year have come at 4-H events. I always end up having a fun time with the young people and adults.

Nicole Kudrle: In what way(s) does 4-H make a difference in the lives of young people?
I love the way 4-H gives confidence to young people. Having the opportunity to practice and experience leadership and safely explore interests with guidance from adults that support and enjoy them is priceless.

Nicole Kudrle: Of all the places you could volunteer, why do you choose 4-H?
One word--results!  You can see young people thrive right before your eyes. I feel like my time volunteering is well spent and that what I do makes a direct difference.

Nicole Kudrle: What would you say to somebody who's thinking about being a 4-H volunteer?
Wherever you are, whatever club you’re in, whatever strength/talent/interest you have there is a place for you in 4-H!  If you’re interested in volunteering in any way offer up your talents. You will not be disappointed!
