Don’t Forget about Opportunity for Free Ag Plastic Recycling
By Emily Wilmes, University of Minnesota Extension

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (02/08/17) — Many farms in Minnesota use ag plastics as a way to store forages, but often struggle with what to do with the plastic once they are done using it.  Ag plastic recycling opportunities have been cropping up all over the country, and there is now an opportunity for ag plastic recycling in Central Minnesota.  Revolution Plastics of Madison, Wisconsin is bringing their plastic recycling services to Minnesota, and they are looking for farmers to sign up.  This opportunity is available to farms within 80 miles of Sauk Centre, and the plastic pick-up is free.  You can sign up to participate in the program by calling them at 844-490-7873.

According to their website, Revolution Plastics accepts ag plastics such as used irrigation tape and tubing, and cover, fumigation, greenhouse and hoophouse films.  They also accept silage plastics like used bale wrap, ag/grain bags, most bunker covers and oxygen barrier film.  However, their website does note that they do not accept bunker cover with nylon scrim, twine, net wrap or other mixed plastics.

So how does it work?  Revolution Plastics will provide a dumpster to your farm, or a farm nearby.  You fill the dumpster with your plastic, making sure it is free of trash, wood, and excess dirt.  Revolution Plastics will empty your dumpster.  That seems like an easy way to recycle!  The opportunity for FREE ag plastic recycling from Revolution Plastics is available to all farms within 80 miles of Sauk Centre.  They are hoping to start the program in April, so sign up today!  To sign up, call them at 844-490-7873.
