    Youth needed to serve as counselors at the Regional 4-H Camp

    Youth in grades 7-12 are encouraged to apply to become a 4-H Camp Counselor for the 2019 Regional 4-H Camp scheduled for June 18-20 in Morris. Counselors will report on June 17.

    4-H Program Coordinator needed in Swift County

    Applications are now being accepted for the Swift County 4-H Program Coordinator position. Information can be found at: https://humanresources.umn.edu/jobs. Priority will be given to applications received by November 4, 2019.

    Registration for the 2019 Science of Agriculture Challenge is now open! Youth in grades 6 - 12 should register by Friday, Feb. 1. The Science of Agriculture Challenge is a great way to develop communication and problem solving skills and explore careers related to agriculture.

    4-H enrollment - it's that time again!

    4-H enrollment is required for 4-H participation and is easy to do. Has your family enrolled yet? If not, please take a few minutes to enroll and/or update your family's information.

These activities will not only build teamwork and problem solving skills, but will energize your members, setting the stage for productive meetings!

    Plan now for winter weather cancellations

    Plan ahead for winter weather cancellations of 4-H programs, activities and outings. Proper plan communication will help to ensure the safety of 4-H members and Minnesota 4-H volunteers during the winter months.

    Utilize the sales tax exemption for purchases appropriately

    Minnesota 4-H is an approved nonprofit organization. This provides 4-H exemption on paying Minnesota sales tax on most purchases. Purchases MUST be paid for directly by a 4-H organization check in order to utilize the sales tax exemption.

    Follow the 4-H policy when generating funds

    Fall is a great time to plan for fundraising activities for 4-H programs to generate dollars to use throughout the year. Utilize the information sheets linked in this article and work with your 4-H program coordinator when you have questions or are seeking advice about carrying out local fundraising efforts.

    Re-enrollment time is here!

    Enrollment is now open for the 2018.2019 4-H program year! It is important that every member enrolls as soon as possible to ensure you receive pertinent information to your 4-H membership.

    Fall Leader Training and Federation Meeting

    The annual required Fall Leader Training will be held on Tuesday, October 9 starting at 6:00 p.m. at the WCROC in Morris. A meal will be provided. Each club must have at least one adult member in attendance to receive your club charter for 2018-2019.

    Ambassadors wanted

    4-H Ambassadors are an important part of the 4-H program in Swift County. We encourage members who are currently in 7th grade and over to consider becoming an Ambassador. Our first Ambassador meeting will be Sunday, October 14th at 3:00p.m. at the E Free Church in Benson (right before the Awards Program).

    4-H Club Officer Training

    Join us for Club Officer Training on Monday, November 12th from 6:00p.m.-8:00p.m. at the E Free Church in Benson. All officers are invited and encouraged to attend the officer training for tips, helpful ideas and to learn what your responsibilities are.

    The new 4-H year is upon us and there's lots going on! Please check out the yearly 4-H calendar to stay up to date on upcoming events and activities. More information will be sent as events draw near, but it never hurts to mark your calendars!

    Interim Minnesota 4-H state leader Jennifer Skuza celebrates all the ways youth and adults can take action in 4-H. As the new program year begins, set your intentions for a year full of doing.

    Plan and develop your club’s budget

    It’s time for 4-H clubs to develop their annual budgets. Budgets provide a written plan for raising and spending money to accomplish club goals. Sharing budget reports with your club throughout the year is a great way to help all 4-H members understand where and how funds are being used.

    Keep youth safe when participating in 4-H programs

    Now is the time of year to plan for risk and keeping youth safe as they participate in a variety of programs, activities and events. Use our online planning tool and risk management materials to ensure safe and healthy environments for youth and adults participating in 4-H programs and activities.

    Plan to attend annual volunteer training this fall

    Powerful things happen for youth when they’re in a positive relationship with caring adults. The 2018 annual volunteer training, “4-H Grows Relationships,” will ready youth and adult volunteers to connect to young people in meaningful ways. Dates and locations are planned across the state this fall. Be sure to bring a team of youth and adult volunteers.

    Come celebrate your 4-H accomplishments from the past year at the annual 4-H Awards Program on Sunday, October 14 at 4:00 p.m. at the E Free Church in Benson.

    Registration for Citizenship Washington Focus, a week-long trip to Washington, DC, will open in fall 2018 for the summer 2019 experience.     Make sure your club explores these new zoonotic disease and agritourism resources being sent to every county across the state. Then enter your team into a video contest for a chance at winning a Glo-Germ lesson kit for your group - The winning team will have the chance to work with a professional videographer to re-produce their video as a commercial for national distribution!

    These scholarships are available for college-bound 4-H youth

    Two scholarships are being offered for Minnesota 4-H youth pursuing post-secondary studies at accredited colleges and universities. Over $58,000 is awarded annually through a competitive application process.

    Extension Development and Minnesota 4-H are happy to announce the 2018 Helping Hands Grant recipients. Of the 26 applications we received, 18 projects totaling $22,000 were awarded to 4-H clubs from 20 counties across the state.

    Learn about new Livestock Quality Assurance training options for 4-H animal science members

    New in 2018 – 4-H animal science members can participate in one of two options for Livestock Quality Assurance certification training: 1) Livestock Quality Assurance and Ethics (LQA&E) training, or 2) Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) training. All youth participating as state fair 4-H livestock exhibitors must complete Livestock Quality Assurance training requirements.
