    Important 4-H Deadlines

    You may drop these important papers off at the Extension Office during our normal business hours of Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

    After hours in the drop box (located outside door B), make sure to mark your envelope for Extension. Please keep in mind that if you drop them in the box the date they are due, they will be considered late because we do not receive mail from the drop box until the next day.

    If you are going to mail in your paperwork, it must be postmarked by the date they are due or it will be considered late, our mailing address is:

    4-H Clubs in Sherburne County

    If you are interested in joining 4-H in Sherburne County please feel free to check out as many of our clubs below as you would like! Any of our 4-H Club leaders will be able to assist you in answering any questions you might have. When you are ready to sign-up, attend a club meeting and your new club leader will have new enrollment forms (youth or adult) for you to complete.     ELK RIVER AREA

     

    Busy Bees
    The Busy Bees 4-H Club is a group of 20-25 youth, with interests in computers, rabbits, poultry, photography, home sciences, aerospace, youth leadership and more. Members live in Big Lake, Princeton, Zimmerman, Elk River and Otsego. In general, this club meets the third Sunday of every month, 3:30 pm at St. Andrew's Church in Elk River.  Some of last year’s club activities included a food drive, ditch cleaning for community pride, as well as exhibiting at the county and state fairs. Club members are very active in county leadership, and participate in summer residence and day camps, both as counselors and campers.     Home Voyageurs
    The Home Voyageurs 4-H Club is made up of about 40 students who both home school and public school.  We meet the first Monday of the month at 2:15pm at Lord of Glory Lutheran Church just north of Hwy 10 on CR 15 between Big Lake and Elk River.  We are a family-oriented club with parental involvement.  We enjoy learning activities together at each meeting and again at the 3rd Monday of each month.  We also enjoy other social gatherings such as community service and are very active in youth leadership, public speaking, performing arts and county fair participation.  For more information, contact Kelly Thomas at 763-441-3878 or kellyand3kids@yahoo.com

     

    Navigators
    The Navigators is a new club in 2009, comprised of 30+ experienced and beginning 4-Hers.  Our youth have a variety of project interests and our meetings are geared to encourage and support the exploration of existing interests as well as new project areas.  We have a firm commitment to community service and to providing opportunities for youth and families to interact and grow in their 4-H experience.     River City Kids
    The River City Kids 4-H Club is a group of 20 youth, with varied interests in pets, geology, model rockets, clothing, and gardens. Most of the members live in the Big Lake Township/Elk River area and attend Elk River Area schools. Some of last year’s club activities included singing at the nursing home, community pride activities, and participating in the county fair parade. This club takes pride in planting flowers at the fair and maintaining the garden at the Veterans Memorial along Hwy 10 in Elk River. We generally meet the second Monday of each month at 7:00pm at the Otsego VFW.     Sherburne Stars
    The Sherburne Stars 4-H Club is a large, adult/youth orientated active group, where parents and youth work together.  Our 4-H youth members fall into every age range and are involved in all types of projects, including livestock, home activities, expressive arts, science, and leadership.  We generally meet at 2:30 pm on the first Monday of the month at United Methodist Church in Elk River.  Cloverbuds (grades K-3) enjoy a tailored educational program during our regular business meetings.  Our Club hosts 3rd Monday Project Meetings, and we are represented at many Club, County, and State activities and committees.  We have an adopted soldier who visits us when he is not deployed, and we communicate regularly with him and others in the armed forces.  Sherburne Stars Community Service projects include Feed My Starving Children, Salvation Army Bell Ringing, and Christmas Child boxes.  For more information, contact Betty Jo McCarty at bettyjo.mccarty@gmail.com; or Cheri Singleton at 763-856-1013 or singleton@izoom.net.
     

    ZIMMERMAN AREA

     

    Zimmerman Adventurers
    The Zimmerman Adventurers 4-H Club is a group of 65 youth, with interests in horses, shooting sports, dogs, creative arts, photography, and a variety of other project areas . In general, this club meets at 10:00 am on the third Saturday of the month at the Zimmerman Evangelical Free Church. Our club tries to encourage youth and adult leadership through the use of club committees. Some of last year’s club activities included our annual club “adventure”, community service projects, and the Wild West Days parade.     BIG LAKE AREA

     

    Home Explorers
    The Home Explorers 4-H Club have been in existence since 1994.  Our members are involved in public presentation, performing arts, arts-in, photography, dog project, shooting sports, & family consumer science.  Our monthly meeting consists of a short meeting followed by a couple of members speaking on projects or an educational guest speaker.  Everyone looks forward to an active game or relay followed by refreshments.  Members work in committees overseen by an involved parent to make it fun and effective.  Currently a majority of our club are home-schoolers.  We have members coming from Becker, Big Lake, Clearwater and Monticello areas.  We meet at Bethany Bible Church, 511 Eagle Lake Road  in Big Lake the first Monday of each month at 1:00pm.  For more information, contact Karen Schurter at 763-262-1027.

     

    Refuge Rangers
    The Refuge Rangers 4-H Club is around 20 members that range from Cloverbuds (grades K-3) to Senior High from the Big Lake, Clear Lake and Becker area.  Members have varied interests including, but not limited to: Performing arts, gardening (both indoor and outdoor), photography, woodworking, sewing, craft & fine arts, fishing, pets, foods & nutrition, metal shop, small engines, and shooting sports and wildlife.  The club stresses the importance of youth in partnership with adults; and, youth leadership through the 4-H Ambassadors program and Club planning.  The Refuge Rangers meet the 1st Sunday of the month at the Big Lake Lions Community Park, 21960 County Road 5, Big Lake at 4:15pm.  Activities of this club include:  Fun Gatherings:  Bowling/Pizza party, Halloween party, Christmas party, Snow tubing party and spudfest parade float.  Community Service:  Making fleece blankets for Crisis Nursery, Sponsorship of American Solider(s), Refuge Road Clean-up.  Educational Speakers:  Service Dogs, Master Gardeners, photographers and authors.  Fundraising:  Sherburne County 4-H Foodstand Participation by all Club Members; and, Club fundraising with Coborn’s grocery store “Bratwurst” stand.  If you have any question about this club or their next meeting, please call Laura Hayes at 763-263-3167 or email mlhayes@izoom.net.

     

    BECKER AREA

     

    Becker Go-Getters
    The Becker Go-Getters 4-H Club has a wide variety of projects and interests.  We have a lot of different animals that the kids show; we also have a Cloverbud program.  We have about 20 kids from the Becker,Clearlake, Big Lake and St. Michael area.  This club meets at 3:00 pm, the 2nd Sunday of each month at the Becker City parks.  For more information, contact Pam Schendel at 763-263-8600.

     

    Happy Hoofbeats
    The Happy Hoofbeats 4-H Club is a club in the Becker & Clear Lake area.  Many of the dozen youth members are involved in horse and/or horse related projects.  Other areas of interest include swine, dog, poultry, fine arts and crafts, and knowledge bowls.  We meet at members' homes on the first Monday of the month at 6:30 pm.  Our members are encouraged to take an active role in the meetings and in presenting demonstrations for the club. We have a growing number of Cloverbuds and provide activities for them.     EAST ST. CLOUD/CLEAR LAKE AREA

     

    Kountry Kids
    The Kountry Kids 4-H club is a group of 15 youth with a variety of interest including livestock (sheep, llama, beef, poultry, goat, rabbit), photography, gardening, arts-in, performing arts, woodworking.  Some of our members live on the East side of St. Cloud, Clear Lake/Clearwater, Big Lake area.  Our club will meet the 3rd Saturday of each month at the Sherburne Historical Society in Becker at 2:00pm.  For more information, contact Michelle Peterson at 763-286-9208 email Michelle.Peterson@brooklynpark.org

    4-H Weather Related Cancellation Line

    The following are guidelines used for canceling county-wide 4-H meetings or activities threatened by inclement weather:
  • If the temperature and/or wind-chill is –30°F or lower, consider the meeting/event cancelled.
  • If area schools are closed due to weather, or close early due to weather, consider the meeting/event cancelled.
  • If a winter storm warning is issued for Sherburne County by the National Weather Service, consider the meeting/event cancelled.
  • If in doubt about whether or not a meeting/event is cancelled, contact the Extension Service Monday - Friday between the hours of 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. If after hours, please use our BROADCAST LINE 763-241-2731 to check for any cancellations. Most importantly, please use your best judgment. If a meeting is not cancelled, but you are uncomfortable with the road conditions, do not attend.
