Upcoming Opportunities!

Building Leadership & Understanding (BLU) is a leadership workshop that engages youth in hands-on activities to build leadership skills and meet other youth from around the area.  Activities are planned and carried out by the Minnesota 4-H State Ambassadors.  BLU is open to youth in grades 6-13 including youth who aren’t yet in 4-H!  The registration cost is $95 to attend, of course the Leader’s Council does provide a scholarship for half of this amount for enrolled 4-H’ers.  BLU’s are offered at different locations and dates around the state, our local BLU is at the Castaway Club in Detroit Lakes February 10-11.  Registration is due January 10.  See the download for more details and to register.

The 2018 Black Hills Stock Show Youth Day will take place on January 27 in Rapid City, SD.  This event is put on by South Dakota State University and South Dakota 4-H.  Youth Day is open to all youth between the ages of 8 and 19 (as of January 1, 2018), regardless of 4-H affiliation.  Activities available include: livestock judging, beef cook-off, horse quiz bowl, horse hippology, livestockology, dog show, dog skill-a-thon, YQCA training.  For more information, check out the complete packet in the Downloads section of our website.

Detroit Mountain Tubing and Teen Mixer—this event had to be rescheduled after nasty weather hit us in December.  It is open to all youth in grades 7+, you do not have to be a 4-H member to participate but 4-H members will get to go for only $10!  Check out the flyer and remember, registration is required by January 19 so that we can get some extra insurance on those who plan to take part!
While June is a little ways off, I realized that calendars fill quickly so I wanted to get a save the date out for anyone interested.  Our annual Northern Pines 4-H Residential Summer Camp will take place June 3-5 just north of Park Rapids.  Our theme this year is Three Days of Friends, Sunshine, and FUN!  It is a riff on the Woodstock slogan and sure to be an amazing time.  The activities will be around music and nature with a little bit of science mixed in as we go.  Seeing as we’re taking in all of the good stuff from Woodstock and none of the bad, what would it be without a little TIE DYE?!  Seriously, so many fun ideas going on, mark your calendars now!  Registration will come out in the spring and likely be due the end of April/beginning of May.
