4-H Engineering Design Challenge: Build a Rube Goldberg Machine

We are putting together a team for the NEW Rube Goldberg Competition happening at the county and state fairs!  In Washington County, we are looking for youth in grades 6-8 who love to make things move, solve problems, or just want to get together to build something fun!

A Rube Goldberg Machine is a series of “steps” that work together to complete a simple task – this year’s goal is to zip a zipper.  If you look up Rube Goldberg on YouTube you will find many crazy, fun examples of how a RBM works.  Teams of 3-10 youth work together to build and present the machine, getting together a few times over the summer with a coach to create, brainstorm, and learn about engineering while having a great time!  I guarantee lots of laughter with this project area!

For more information please see the Engineering Design Challenge page, the Rube Goldberg rule book or contact Emily Fulton-Fischer at
