Why: How do youth benefit from 4-H? A recent national study by Tufts University found that youth who participate in 4-H:

  • Have better grades and are more emotionally engaged with school.
  • Are more than twice as likely to be civically active and contribute to their communities.
  • Are 47% less likely to have risky or problem behaviors.
  • 4-H participants are 1.6 times as likely as youth in other out-of-school programs to report better grades (“B and above” grades), 1.4 times as likely as youth in other programs to report high academic competence, 1.5 times as likely as youth in other programs to report high engagement in school, and 1.8 times as likely as youth in other programs to expect to go to college.
