    RSVP for a Leader's Council Party!!

    ALL are welcome! Join us Monday, August 6th at 6:30 PM @ North Park in Clarkfield - we will have pizza and a pool party, as well as talk a bit about this year's County Fair and take nominations for the 2018-2019 Leader's Council Offices.

    Be a part of State Arts In at the State Fair!

    Minnesota 4-H State Arts-In is a SUPER awesome 8-day intensive arts experience at the 4-H Building on the State Fairgrounds! If you are in grades 9+ and: interested in theater both on the stage or behind the scenes, costumes, music, singing, back drop creation, props or more - State Arts In is for you!!

    Earn an award - complete your records!

    What are 4-H records? They are a short form for you 4-H'er to complete that will help them reflect on their 4-H year in club participation (participation record), and the projects that they completed over the year (project records). Everyone - including Cloverbuds! - can fill out records. Project records are due Monday, October 1 at Leader's Council meeting or before. Each youth will get one record form mailed to them to get them started!     Message from Dorothy: Be fearlessly committed to growing more true leaders

    In her last article as Minnesota 4-H state leader, Dorothy Freeman encourages all youth, volunteers and families to be fearless in growing true leaders.

    Nominate a 4-H volunteer for Salute to Excellence

    Volunteers give much to the Minnesota 4-H program! Consider nominating an outstanding volunteer for a 2019 4-H Salute to Excellence Award. All nomination materials are due by Sept. 15, 2018.

    Plan to attend annual volunteer training this fall

    Powerful things happen for youth when they’re in a positive relationship with caring adults. The 2018 annual volunteer training, “4-H Grows Relationships,” will ready youth and adult volunteers to connect to young people in meaningful ways. Watch for dates and locations across the state this fall and plan to bring a team of youth and adult volunteers.

    Card games, board games, and hands-on learning...Oh my!

    Make sure your club explores these new zoonotic disease and agritourism resources being sent to every county across the state. Then enter your team into a video contest for a chance at winning a Glo-Germ lesson kit for your group - The winning team will have the chance to work with a professional videographer to re-produce their video as a commercial for national distribution!

    Remember livestock demonstration opportunities

    Again in 2018 the Minnesota Livestock Breeders Association will be providing $30 cash awards to all 4-H members who complete a livestock demonstration during 4-H livestock weekend at the Minnesota State Fair. Start planning your livestock demonstration today!

    These scholarships are available for college-bound 4-H youth

    Two scholarships are being offered for Minnesota 4-H youth pursuing post-secondary studies at accredited colleges and universities. Over $58,000 is awarded annually through a competitive application process.

    State Fair Livestock Quotas for YMC 4-H

    State Fair Livestock Quotas for YMC 4-H may look a little different this summer. Due to overcrowding in the barns, and overall risk management practices, livestock quotas across the state have been reduced. There is no longer an additional trip for 90% showmanship. However, there are opportunities to win extra trips in each species for 2019! Check out this article to see our livestock quotas, and learn more about earning additional trips for next year.

    Assistants are needed for 4-H County Fair judges!

    Judge's assistants help by organizing ribbons and projects. They help the judge to keep everything organized, and then arrange the projects around the fair building after being judged! We would love any and all help - this could even be used for volunteer hours to fulfill NHS, Confirmation, and more! The link to sign up is in this article.

    The Yellow Medicine County Fair & Pre-Fair judging are coming up quickly! The deadline for registering projects is Friday, June 15th in YMC 4-H. You are also MORE than welcome to give our office a call, send an email, or stop by the office, if you would like! We know that it can be tricky when we only do this one time a year, and no question is a dumb one!

    A Minnesota 4-H adult volunteer recently received a phishing email containing club specific information – learn how to spot phishing attempts and follow up appropriately.

    Congratulations to the 2018 Helping Hands Grants Recipients!

    Extension Development and Minnesota 4-H are happy to announce the 2018 Helping Hands Grant recipients. Of the 26 applications we received, 18 projects totaling $22,000 were awarded to 4-H clubs from 20 counties across the state.

    2018 State Arts-In registration is now open!

    All youth currently in grade nine - one year post high school are invited to participate in a 22 day theater arts/leadership/team building experience at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The 2018 Arts-In experience begins Aug. 9. Register by June 25.

    Sign up for the new 2018 Engineering Design Challenge (formerly Rube Goldberg) state event

    Sign up for the 2018 Engineering Design Challenge! Youth across the state in grades three and up can participate in this fun, team focused STEM based challenge. The event will take place on Monday, Aug. 6 at St. Cloud State University. Sign your team up by June 8 to guarantee a spot at the event. All Level 1 and Level 2 teams are invited to attend!

    Learn about new Livestock Quality Assurance training options for 4-H animal science members

    New in 2018 – 4-H animal science members can participate in one of two options for Livestock Quality Assurance certification training: 1) Livestock Quality Assurance and Ethics (LQA&E) training, or 2) Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) training. All youth participating as state fair 4-H livestock exhibitors must complete Livestock Quality Assurance training requirements.

    Don't forget about 2018 Share the Fun!

    This is an early reminder that state fair Share the Fun nominations and application forms will be available online June 1. Interested 4-H youth should start preparing to perform their acts! If your county has a Share the Fun competition at county fair, reserve a place on the rehearsal time schedule any time after June 1.

    University on the Prairie

    Students in the region can have an adventure in science and career exploration at University on the Prairie, which will be held July 24-26 at the Southwest Research & Outreach Center near Lamberton.

    Mark your calendars for the 2018 AKSARBEN Stock Show!

    The AKSARBEN Stock Show will be held in Grand Island, Neb. Sept. 27-30, 2018. It's open to 4-H members from Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. In it, 4-H youth exhibit livestock, compete in quiz bowl and judging, apply for scholarships and internships to work with the AKSARBEN Stock Show.
