Consumer Decision Making Event

June 17, 2014

Slayton, MN

In 4-H, judging is essentially a matter of comparing four similar items and deciding which is better and why. Consumer decision making (CDM) means you, as a consumer, decide which product or service meets the set requirements the best! The goal of CDM is to teach 4-H members how to make wise consumer choices, and since you (and your families) make purchasing decisions nearly every day, it is a great skill to learn and practice! Class scenarios involve items of personal care, entertainment & leisure, clothing & textiles, consumerism & personal finance, or nutrition.

Yellow Medicine County is very blessed: there is already a volunteer who is willing to be the coach for a CDM team and two excited 4-H'ers!! The goal is to have 4-5 more youth to create a team.

There’s a regional contest coming up on June 17 for grades 3rd - 12th, and an opportunity to compete at the state contest during the State Fair on August 20th. Youth can compete in either or both of those options.

Please contact the Yellow Medicine County 4-H office with your interest in being a part of a CDM team, or if you want to have a chat with Alicia to get a better understanding of what it actually is. We're looking forward to hearing from you!
