4-H Alumni Spotlight - Dr. Mike Curley

Residence: Rural Windom, MN

4-H member in which county & club name:   Swift County, Torning Happy Hustlers

Involvement with 4-H (as youth or adult): As a youth, Dr. Curley showed beef cattle and sheep, participated on the 4-H Judging Team, and served as the club president. His 4-H involvement continued as an adult and parent.  He served as the County Fair veterinarian, Parent Leader, and supported their children with their various 4-H projects. Their three children: Bridget, Tom, and John participated in 4-H as a Cloverbud through age 19.

Favorite 4-H memory: Winning Champion 4-H Ewe with “Pearl” at the Swift County Fair.  Dr. Curley also enjoyed showing steers and sheep at the Minnesota State Fair. 

Advice to current 4-H youth: Get involved with 4-H!  The opportunities for youth are endless!  You can make lifelong friends through 4-H.

Why do you think people should be involved in 4-H? Dr. Curley thinks people should be involved with 4-H because it’s a program that brings out the best in American youth.

Current occupation: Veterinarian with the MN Board of Animal Health

Family: Wife: Sue; daughter: Bridget (Jared) and their three children; sons: Tom (Anna), and John.

Anything else you’d like to include: They Curley family is now a four generation 4-H family!  Dr. Curley’s father, Lawrence was very active in 4-H, then himself, and their three children.  Now, their two granddaughters make up the fourth 4-H generation.
