4-H clover 2023 Helping Hands Award project spotlight: Mulligan Town Hall sign

Mulligan Township is a small rural area in Brown County. The Mulligan Town Hall, located in the center of the township, had a sign that was deteriorating and becoming a bit of an eyesore. Unfortunately, the township had limited funding to replace the sign.

The Comfrey Comets 4-H Club saw this and took action. They submitted their idea for the 2023 Helping Hands Award and were awarded $500 to complete their project.

The main purpose of their project was to provide a new and improved Mulligan Town Hall sign that beautifies the area.

However, the 4-H youth were able to gain so much more. This project helped build relationships between 4-H club members and township board members. It also generated interest in their club among the other community youth and families.

The 4-H’ers who participated learned lifelong skills, such as design, carpentry and painting. The project also provided opportunities for younger and older club members to team up and learn from each other.

Taking the initiative on a project that added to their community has created a sense of pride and accomplishment for the Comfrey Comets 4-H Club youth. They have also established a relationship with the township board members and now understand how important each group is in their community.

The Helping Hands Award is for Minnesota 4-H youth who want to turn their ideas into action! Do you have an idea to submit? Learn more and apply for a Helping Hands Award.
