Changing Your U of MN Email Address
logo: U of MN Extension

Updated December 2000

Background: Extension uses the standard University of Minnesota email addresses for communication. These computer generated addresses are a mix of letters and numbers (e.g. smith003@umn.edu). Some Extension faculty and staff have expressed an interest in changing their email address to a more "friendly" one (e.g. bsmith@umn.edu).

GENERAL INFORMATION:

If you wish to change your U of MN email userid, please contact the U of MN Central Email Accounts Office at 612-626-8366 as soon as possible. Changing your U of MN email userid is generally not a problem as long as you have not made use of campus-based systems such as Forms Nirvana or the U of MN main Grants Management System. (If you have, you need to notify these offices separately since they don't "synch" userid changes.) To speed up the process, I am including a copy of the standard material that the email accounts office asks you to review when requesting a userid change. If you want to change your U of MN userid, tell them that you have read the information/disclaimer below and want to initiate the name change.

If you change your U of MN account address, you need to let Bobbie Roberts (bobbie@umn.edu) know about your "physical address change" immediately after it takes effect so that you do not loose any email that is sent to you from Extension.
