New shrub pruning videos and weed information

Shrub pruning videos series

Extension Yard and Garden has a new series of shrub pruning videos on our Trees and shrubs webpage to help you with your seasonal pruning. Pruning can be both scary and really satisfying, and we want to help.

People are afraid they will prune off the wrong branch and ruin a plant for life. However, opening up a shrub canopy and removing crossed and dead branches can make a shrub look great as it goes into the growing season.

Check out the videos and if you still have questions, you can always Ask a Master Gardener.

Webpages about some common weeds in lawns and gardens

Staying ahead of weeds in your landscape can be challenging but the benefits are great: less competition for plants, fewer pests, more space for desirable plants, and a better looking landscape overall.

Interestingly, gardeners are sometimes split on the pros and cons of certain weeds like dandelions (good early pollen source for bees) and Dutch white clover (important legume and nectar source in bee lawns).

Our new Weed pages offer comprehensive information about these misplaced plants to help you meet your goals around weed management (or encouragement) in your lawn and garden.
