County Fair Pet Show’s Impact

Goat at the Fair

During the South St. Louis County fair, there was a unique opportunity for interaction between two groups of people that rarely find themselves together. The wonderfully enriching moment occurred when a number of adults from a traumatic injury group home came up to the youth that had just shown their pets at the 4-H Pet Show. The adults and their PCA’s began asking the youth to tell them about their pets, and each of the youth happily recounted stories and explained about their individual pets.

The adults appeared delighted to have such close connection to the different animals, ranging from rabbits and dogs to a goat!  They all were thrilled to hear all the 4-H youth wanted to tell them and the youth seemed to love having such enthusiastic listeners. It was a perfect match, and a great example of the impact that 4-H can have across generations and abilities.
