Private Pesticide Applicator Re-Certification Workshops

There will be a re-certification workshop held in Alexandria on Tuesday, January 22 from 9 AM - 2:30 PM.  This event will take place at Broadway Ballroom located at 115 30th Ave E, Alexandria.  This is a combined meeting covering soybean production, pest management and pesticide re-certification topics.  Applicators must attend the entire program to recertify.  Lunch will be served.  

Re-certification is required if you:

  • Apply pesticides to land or sites you own, rent or lease for the production of agriculture commodities AND
  • Plan to use restricted use pesticides AND
  • Reside in the state of Minnesota AND
  • Your certification expires in 2018.  

Options for Private Pesticide Applicators who need to renew their certification:

  • Must be completed by March 1, 2019
  • Attend a re-certification workshop instead of retesting
  • Complete the test as a home study course.  19th edition manuals ($10) and tests (free) are available at most county Extension offices.

Re-certification and workshop information:

  • Farmers can attend a 3.5 hour Private Pesticide Applicators Workshop for re-certification instead of taking a test.  Testing (online or mail-in) remains an option.  
  • New applicators or those with certification that has lapsed (not currently certified), must take the test to become certified. 
  • The cost to re-certify, either by attending a re-certification workshop or testing is $ 75.  Checks only please, made payable to University of Minnesota.
  • Attending a re-certification workshop renews your certification for three years.
  • Pre-registration not required.  Check or credit card payments will be accepted at the door.
  • When attending a re-certification workshop you must bring an official photo identification card, such as a driver's license, passport or some type of official document.  Bringing your Private Pesticide Applicator Certification ID card or number will assist in the registration process.  
  • Persons who do not have their Applicator's card may obtain their applicator number on-line at the MDA website or by contacting MDA via phone at 651-201-6633.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture requires applicators to attend the entire workshop to receive re-certification credit.  Applicators that arrive more than 15 minutes late to a workshop or leave early will not be allowed to receive re-certification credit.
