Communicate winter weather cancellation plans

February is a good time to review the 4-H winter weather cancellation plan. 4-H programs, activities and outings should be prepared to modify and/or cancel programming as needed to help ensure the safety of 4-H members and their families.

Consider the following weather conditions when making decisions:

  • Forecasted low temperature.
  • Outdoor wind chill of 20 degrees below 0 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.
  • Total predicted snowfall.
  • The ability to safely operate vehicles (ice, snow, visibility).
  • School cancelations.

Review the winter weather cancellation plan at club/federation/council meetings throughout the winter months so 4-H members and families know how they will be notified of program cancellations.

Consider the following methods:

  • Monthly Clover Update.
  • Website.
  • Facebook.
  • Direct communication to registration lists (calls, texts, emails).
  • Phone trees.
  • E-blast messages.
  • Local radio/TV stations.

Continue to be aware of how cancellations are communicated through your club and on the county level throughout the winter months.
