    2019 animal science lease information is now available

    Minnesota 4-H allows the leasing of animal science projects to ensure that all members have the opportunity to experience the showing of livestock projects. Animal science lease information has been updated for 2019 and is available on our website.

    Register for the 2019 Minnesota 4-H Engineering Design Challenge!

    Team registrations are now open for the 2019 Minnesota 4-H Engineering Design Challenge! The challenge is designed for youth in grades 3 - 12 and provides an opportunity for youth to problem solve while using their imaginations, working with others and having a fun experience!

    Save the date for YELLO!

    The State Ambassadors are asking youth in grades 6+ to save the date for the 2019 YELLO! youth leadership conference. The conference will take place June 11-14 in St. Paul. Registration will open by April 1.

    2019 Minnesota 4-H scholarships available for college-bound 4-H youth

    Extension development and Minnesota 4-H offer several scholarships for 4-H youth who are pursuing post-secondary studies at accredited colleges and universities. Over $20,000 is awarded annually through a competitive application process. All applications are due to the Extension development office by April 1.

    Attend spring 2019 SS&W Leader Certification Training

    4-H SS&W Leader Certification Trainings will be held April 6-7 in Isanti County and April 27-28 in Jordan. These trainings are designed for adults and youth that lead or would like to lead training in shooting sports, wildlife, or ATV safety. Deadlines for registering for the trainings are March 20 and April 10. Disciplines fill quickly, so make sure registration forms are sent in early!

    SW Animal Science Challenge

    Dairy, general livestock, and horse enthusiasts – mark your calendar! The eighth annual Southwest Animal Science Challenge will be held Saturday, February 16, at the Wabasso Public School. This is a day-long 4-H event that consists of project bowl competition, hands-on skill-a-thon stations, and project workshops led by industry-leading professionals.

    Regional Project Day is a one-day event where 4-H'ers from all counties in our region come together for a day full of creating, building and learning about project areas that interest your child.

    2019 Regional Camp Counselor Applications

    2019 4-H Regional Summer Camp

    The Minnesota 4-H Camping program develops leadership and responsibility skills for teen counselors, while providing a safe and fun opportunity for the campers through activities, which allow them to gain knowledge and develop social skills while meeting new friends. 4-H staff and high-school aged camp counselors are prepared and ready to deliver an exciting and safe camp for you!

    Danielle Holmes honored as Minnesota 4-H Volunteer of the Year

    Danielle Holmes of Moorhead has received the 2019 Minnesota 4-H Salute to Excellence Volunteer of the Year Award. The award is given to an individual who has volunteered for 4-H less than ten years and selected from nominees across the state.

    Keep youth safe - participating in winter activities

    Winter activities and outings require planning ahead to avoid risk. Ensure 4-H members and volunteers stay safe by following the “keeping youth safe” guidelines and policies.

    Olmsted County 4-H Youth Leader of the Month

    The Youth Leader of the Month recognizes 4-H’ers grades 11+ that are active leaders in the community. One youth will be recognized monthly at the monthly Kiwanis of Rochester Luncheons. Youth Leaders of the month are also considered for a $750 scholarship awarded annually at Achievement Night.

    Join the Olmsted County 4-H Ambassadors

    The County Ambassador team is open to all youth grades 7+ interested in putting on countywide events, building leadership skills and meeting other 4-H Youth. Check out our next meeting Wednesday November 7th at 7pm!

    Invigorate your club meetings

    Adult and teen leaders - are you looking for new activities to kick off your club meetings? Check out this new resource on our website to engage your members in problem solving activities! These activities will not only build teamwork and problem solving skills, but will energize your members, setting the stage for productive meetings!

    Utilize the sales tax exemption for purchases appropriately

    Minnesota 4-H is an approved nonprofit organization. This provides 4-H exemption on paying Minnesota sales tax on most purchases. Purchases MUST be paid for directly by a 4-H organization check in order to utilize the sales tax exemption.

    Follow the 4-H policy when generating funds

    Fall is a great time to plan for fundraising activities for 4-H programs to generate dollars to use throughout the year. Utilize the information sheets linked in this article and work with your 4-H program coordinator when you have questions or are seeking advice about carrying out local fundraising efforts.

    SE Region 4-H Fall Volunteer Leader and Youth Officer Training

    Powerful things happen for youth when they're in a positive relationship with caring adults. The 2018 annual volunteer training, "4-H Grows Relationships," will ready youth and adult volunteers to connect to young people in meaningful ways. Dates and locations are planned across the state this fall. Be sure to bring a team of youth and adult volunteers.

    Now is the time of year to plan for risk and keeping youth safe as they participate in a variety of programs, activities and events. Use our online planning tool and risk management materials to ensure safe and healthy environments for youth and adults participating in 4-H programs and activities.

    Free "How-To" GATEway Science Fair Workshop

    Would you like to learn how to do a science fair project? Come to a free workshop that will show you how. Find out what makes a good science fair project, based on the scientific method of inquiry. Scientists will work with you in small groups to conduct and gather data for two experiments.

    Project Superintendents Needed

    Superintendent volunteers serve as a resource for judges in project areas (help with displays, ribbons, lines, etc.).

    4-H Regional Camp 2017

    Have fun, meet new friends and explore new things at 4-H Regional Camp at Whitewater State Park! Campers will spend three days and two nights at camp enjoying swimming, hiking, nature activities, games, the arts, music, crafts, educational programs, great food, cabin life, reflective campfires and more!
