2018 Pine County Farm Family of the Year

Congratulations to the Hjelmberg family for receiving the 2018 Pine County Farm Family of the Year Award!

The Farm Family Recognition Program has existed for over 30 years and honors farm families from throughout Minnesota for their contributions to the agriculture industry and their local communities. This year's award recipients were recognized at a program held Aug. 9 at Farmfest in Redwood Falls, MN, as well as at locally hosted recognition events.

The Hjelmbergs’ Lake Haven Farm was settled in 1892 and operated as a dairy farm for more than 100 years. In 2001, it transitioned to a beef cattle operation running about 50 head. That same year, Lake Haven Custom Meat Processing was started by Al Hjelmberg’s grandfather, Archie Johnson. Seven years later Archie passed away and Al and his wife, Hannah, took over the farm and the meat processing business. Al and Hannah’s son, Hudson, is the 6th generation of the family to live on the farm.

Visit the Minnesota Farm Families of the Year website for more info on this year's award winners.
